深入解读

Gallop 一词源自古法语 galoper （马等飞跑疾驰），15世纪初期进入英语后也是表示此义，以及指“骑马奔驰或使马飞奔”，强调马以最快速度奔跑，这与形容“（马）小跑、慢跑”或“骑马慢跑”的 canter 和 trot 相对，比如：

• 当我们骑马从林中飞驰而过时，他被一匹脱缰的马踩死了。
  When we were galloping through the woods, he was trampled to death by a runaway horse.

把这个概念引申用在人身上可以指“（人）飞奔、迅速奔跑”。而用在事物上时则表示“急速移动、快速行动”或者说“飞速发展、高速发展”，其中后者多指以一种快速且似乎不可控制的方式进行，比如：

• 她沿街飞奔而来，告诉我们她找到了一个轻松舒服的工作。
  She came galloping down the street and told us that she had found a snug berth.
• 尽管还处于萧条期，在提供优质服务的同时利润却迅猛增长。
